I fell in love with Yoga Nidra during my first yoga teacher training in 2007. How could something so basic as lying on your back, listening to a body scan, be so incredibly profound!

Over the years, I continued with a variety of studies and certifications, including a 200-hour training in India, specifically on Yoga Nidra.

I have found Yoga Nidra to be a transformational experience, for myself, as well as for my students and clients around the world. Its benefits inspire me to keep sharing it with others.

The practice itself has become increasingly popular recently, and courses are popping up everywhere, but many of them focus mostly on relaxation or falling asleep.

It’s great that meditation can help people relax and go to sleep, and yet … there is SO MUCH MORE to Yoga Nidra.

It was never intended as a yogic sleeping tablet. It was designed to take us through the different layers of our awareness, to enter a state of equanimity and deep insight, and ultimately to open the doorway to personal transformation.

My foundation course on Insight Timer has had over 65,000 students (as at January 2026) and it continues to grow daily. This 10-module online course explains more about the conscious “yogic sleep” of Yoga Nidra, and how to embrace Yoga Nidra as a lifestyle.

Julie’s Love for Yoga Nidra


Julie was instantly fascinated by Yoga Nidra in 2007
during her first yoga teacher training, and in what looked like a pyjama party, with the student group lying down on the floor, cuddled up under blankets, at the end of a long day of studies.

She closed her eyes and began to listen to the guided meditation … and afterwards she felt as if she had been transported to another world, while at the same time remaining quietly and blissfully awake and aware of each step of the meditation.

“What was that?” was quickly followed by, “More, please!”

Her teachings are based on a blend of the classical, ancient wisdom from India, as well as modern day adaptation, for practical everyday use.

She is also influenced by her own personal experiences of this extraordinary meditation practice.

Julie is particularly inspired by how Yoga Nidra brings personal insight and can become a gateway for positive personal transformation.
